How do you rise above when life feels impossible? How do you break through when the odds are stacked against you?

In honor of Black History Month, we are proud to host Mr. Arshay Cooper, author, motivational speaker, and social justice advocate, for an unforgettable discourse about rowing through barriers, past adversity, and beyond hope. Featured in Steph Curry’s book club and brought to life in a powerful documentary narrated by Common, Arshay’s remarkable journey, as chronicled in A Most Beautiful Thing, is a testament to the transformative power of unity.

This is more than a story; it is a pivotal moment in history. On Chicago's West Side, in a neighborhood defined by struggle and scarcity, Arshay joined the first all-Black high school rowing team in the nation. Against all odds, he and his teammates shattered stereotypes, redefined the sport of rowing, and became symbols of what is possible when belief meets action. His journey is a beacon of courage, commitment, and hope; proving that profound change can arise even in the face of overwhelming challenges. Today, Arshay continues to inspire and lead, reshaping lives, fostering unity, and dismantling systemic inequities. Prepare to be moved, challenged, and inspired by a story that reaffirms the strength of the human spirit and the profound change that can arise when people come together with a shared purpose.

Be prepared to be moved, challenged, and inspired by this unforgettable discourse with a man who is changing narratives, not just for himself, but for communities everywhere.

This is a Black History Month event you don’t want to miss! Be part of this powerful moment. Invite your colleagues, students, and friends.
