As the largest private federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) in New York State Mercy College is proud to celebrate National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week – a week that has been officially recognized by the White House in acknowledgement of the key role HSIs play in preparing Hispanic American scholars and the educators who make an impact in our communities.

Organized by the Hispanic Association of College and Universities (HACU), National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week is celebrated on HSI campuses – colleges or universities around the country with Hispanic enrollment of more than 25%.
As a federally designated HSI, Hispanic student enrollment makes up more than 38% of the Mercy student body and the College is committed to providing resources to ensure students not only get into college but that the achieve their degree.
Mercy College is recognized by HACU as a national leader in awarding bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics in several disciplines, including psychology, sociology and business. Additionally, in September 2020, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $1,149,967 in federal funding, allocated through the U.S. Department of Education’s HSIs Program, to expand educational opportunities for, and improve the attainment of, Hispanic students and to enhance their academic offerings, program quality, and institutional stability at Mercy College and Rockland Community College.
